The Name "Kanturk"
Our town's name comes from the Irish Ceann Toirc (also spelled Ceann Tuirc), meaning "head of the boar" or "headland of the boar". Local legend tells that this is where the last wild boar in Ireland was slain, giving our town its distinctive name and heritage.
Location
Kanturk serves as the heart of the Duhallow region and was historically the ancient capital of the Barony of Duhallow. We're conveniently located:
- 30 km northwest of Mallow
- 50 km northwest of Cork City
- At the meeting point of the Allow and Dalua rivers
